Sub Sea Turbines Ltd is a leading developer of tidal energy devices.  It has designed a sub sea turbine (the SST), to be sited on the sea bed at well below shipping depths, which will produce electricity in excess of 250 kW hours. As it is completely submerged at all times, storm damage on the surface is eliminated and there is reduced environmental   impact.  Most importantly, tidal power is predictable, many years into the future, unlike wind and wave power.  The UK controls 50% of the E.U.’s tidal energy, and this provides home grown security of supply.   The UK government has now proposed doubling Renewable Obligation Certificates (ROCs) for tidal power, effectively trebling the revenue from this renewable and sustainable resource.

SST Ltd is pleased to announce that it has received substantial equity backing from a major Private Equity firm.  It has also been awarded R & D funding from the DTI. 

Much of the development work has been subcontracted to a leading European marine engineering company, and a development site has been acquired on the South Coast of England.  An area for the first SST Field has been negotiated, with off-take being fed into the local community.
